Bruno Delvigne / Guy Depiere / Raoul Dufy / Ton Etman

A nice watercolor from this Belgium based artist. 

He uses refunded techniques in order to create a

world of his own and all elements have a role in it.

Work on paper. Dimensions: 56 / 75 cm.

His signature which is immediately recognizable

and besides that most of his works have  a paper

on the back that gives a description of the artist.

A rather big oil painting by this artist.

Guy Depierre

The works of Guy Depiere are hardly to trace.

There is a belgium artist Guy Depiere who lived in
Brussels and had a studio for strips and cartoons.

He was internationally appraised and by looking

at these gouaches the talent is certainly there.

It appears to be in fact the same person that made the
big boat litho's for commercial purposes.

We think this is a vue on one of the sidewings of the
Louvre. Watercolour. Dimensions 50 - 70 cm.

This gouache by the same artist is also made in Paris.

Actually it is the Tuilerie (Garden of the Louvre)

based on the fact that this has been added in pencil under the

signature lower right: Tuilery

Dufy allways seems to create a cheerful mood.

He often had musicians as a subject of his work.

This litho on Arche paper has been stamped outside the actual picture.
This is an original litho from the ateliers that stamped Dufy's litho's
during his lifetime! Work on paper. Dimensions 50 / 70 cm.

One of his beloved subjects: Sailing vessels in Deauville.

This litho must have come from a book. Nobody

was interested. We were!

The litho presented here must have been one of his last ones

as he died in March 1953. Raoul Dufy did a lot of litho's

with flowers as a subject but until now we didn't find an

opportunity to buy one. And now two at a time!

This one has been done on Arches paper and the 

printing has been done painstakingly as it almost 

appears to be a litho that has been handcoloured in.

The signature as well seems to have been done in

paint. Just study the next picture by enlarging it!

From the same owner this litho has been bought.

A different kind of paper has been used for printing.

Slightly discolored but for a more than 60 years old litho..

This lithograph most likely has been taken out of a book

that was published by the Librairie Academique Perrin.

If so, and that can be derived from the vertical marking

in the middle, then it was published in 1965 together

with works of some other artists. The name of this work

"La Fee Electricite" is pointing towards a work by Dufy

made in 1937 still present in the Museum d'Art Moderne

in Paris (France). Quite a huge work of which a litho  

has been made with enormous dimensions as well!

This one is called "Coupe des Fruits".

Ton Etman

This is an early work by this Dutch artist: Still in a naturalistic

way he gives an impression of the South France or even maybe

a Spanish landscape. Work on panel. Dimensions: 65 / 80 cm.

This canvas is called: "Entfuhrung aus dem Serail" which

is the title for a Mozart opera. Probably a sight from above

and you can perceive a camel in the lower part.

In almost the same vivid colours he produced this landscape

with cows. This painting is giving the spectators a very

"Dutch"  feeling as the laundry is hanging in the meadow

as well. Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 80 / 100 cm.

Sven "X" Erixson / Einar From / Piet Franz / Friedländer / Gavin

This is a somewhat later work by then nearly blind swedish

artist Erixson. It's melancholism really beats me!

Einar From

A little bit hard to determine but the signature

appears to say: Eyn... From. It could be the norwegian

painter Eynar From who lived to be a hundred years old!

It really has a catchy decoration power but done with

great care. The more I look at it, the more quality

I see in it! Oil on panel. Dimensions: 50 / 50 cm.

Piet Franz

Piet Franz was born September 20, 1922 in Rijswijk.

He died on June 21, 1991 in The Hague. Lived and

worked in Rijswijk and after 1946 in The Hague.

Made many study trips to Yugoslavia,  Switzerland,

Yugoslavia and France. Pupil of P. Hanebrink in

Delft and he studied at the Royal Academy of

Fine Arts in The Hague. He was a teacher at the

Vrije Academie in The Hague. Working as a painter

and sculptor. Mentioned in the Pieter Scheen and the

Scharten. Belonged in the fifties to "De nieuwe Ploeg",

a new artistic team. Member of the Pulchri studio

and the "Haagse Kunstkring".

Johnny Friedländer

This German born artist who lived a big part of his life in Paris

made a lot of etching / aquatint works and was a master in it.

This particular work comes out of the collection of the bankrupted 

dutch SNS bank as a label states at the back. Work on paper

Dimensions: Etching: 35,5 / 43 Frame: 78 / 87,5.

There are a lot of works by his hand around but this work

is special as the frame seems to be worked out in collaboration

with the artist. Signed and numbered: 60 out of 95.

Gavin

It will not be surprising that this artist

also creates beautiful sculptures.

This one is an etching. Work on paper.

Bernadette Galle

A nice and "moving" watercolor from Bernadette

Galle who is one of the leading figures of a "circle

of watercolorists" in the south of Belgium / North of 

France. Work on paper. Dimensions: 50 / 70 cm.

Hans L (J) / Herbert Gentry

Something strange is happening here but what??

We immediately liked this forceful work that

will be  simply framed as the canvas itself allready

is enough and feels like being complete.

Oil on Canvas. Dimensions: 80 / 90 cm.

The signature appears to say "Hans" which is a common

Dutch name. we think the next prefix to be the first one

of his family name but it could be a "J"  as well as a "L".

Herbert (Herb) Gentry

This work is finally aquired by the widow of the

late Herbert Gentry, an africain artist who was educated

in Paris at the time Cobra became popular.

This one is called "Red Spin".

Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 60 - 100 cm

This recently aquired painting by Herbert Gentry

coincidentally is from the same abstract period as

"The Red Spin" the first work represented here.

It is smaller and on masonite but is a forceful work

that gives different views depending on how the light

strikes this painting. It has a lot to do with the way

the light strikes the cobalt blue paint and the use of

a kind of silver metallic paint. It's title is "Opened Window"

and it has been made in 66 which year has been written

on the front of the painting under the signature.

The signature of this painting with its' typical "6" found

on other works as well. As is known with abstract works

the spectators are invited to make their own story and

interpretation. However the central figure certainly has

 a face to our believe and when you suppose the two holes

near the left eye of that person are injuries the painting

even is macabre as the assasin is on the left where the knife

(or sword) is. The way victims tend to look once deadly

attacked is then more than obvious and makes this a

strong work to our believe as the expression is great.

In order to make everything more readable this picture

has been worked on a bit. It has been dated on the

back 66 / 67 so maybe we have to conclude it

has been made around newyears eve. The cobalt

blue colour explains a lot more when we are assuming

that is the case. Work on masonite / Hardboard that is

not tempered (not filled with linseed oil)

In reality the board is just square at all sides but

white paint that has been spilled at the edges gives it

another look. Oil on Masonite (Hardboard)

Dimensions 35 / 42 cm. Condition: fine.

Nathalie Gobin / Gabriël Godard

A nice crayon with every stroke "at the right place".

It takes many hours to be able to have a result like

this. To develop these skills for an artwork you

have to be talented at first and after that years

to be able to create a recognizable signature.

Work on paper. Dimensions: 44 / 55 cm.

Having developed these skills and getting recognition

doesn't automatically means that you will become a

person. It counts for Mrs. Gobin as she ended her life 

being only 28 years old....

Gabriël Godard

The people that are supposed to be on the beach are the

spectators. A litho. In fact this is the french based

celebrated artist.Work on paper. Dimensions: 53 - 65 cm.

Plusieurs toiles ont été acquises par la Ville de Paris et par l'Etat pour le

Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris et pour plusieurs musées

de province. De nombreux textes ont ete consacrés a l'oeuvre de

Godard notamment "Ces Peintres nos Amis", Cannes-1960,

"Dictionnaire des Contemporains"-1964, "Officiel des Arts"-1978,

"International des Arts"-1983, "Prestige de la Peinture et

de la Sculpture d'Aujourd'hui dans le Monde"-1989,

"Catalogue de l'Exposition au Musée de l'Orangerie du Sénat à Paris"-2003.

Andre Goezu / Bob de Groof

Andre Goezu (1939 - 

Bob de Groof (1959 -

Immediately recognizable for his somewhat earlier

work. In fact the influence of the COBRA group absolutely

is there. A bit Finn Pedersen and Asger Jorn but not copied!

The signature which leaves no mysteries. Clear.

A kind of a surprise was the drawing in ink on the back

at the time we took this work out of its' frame. As can 

be seen this was necessary as humidity allready caused 

some mold on the paper. A new passe partout and acid 

free backing of the paper in fact is necessary. Work on 

paper.  Dimensions: 23 / 31 cm. We recently had contact 

with Mr. de Groof. It is also from his hand and bears 

the title "The Opium Smoker". Ink drawing.

Lucien Guinotte (1925 - 1989)

Regarding this artwork we couldn't find the name of the artist

up until now but we discovered the meaning of this abstract

work at first sight. In fact it is not abstract at all! 

It is a cat playing with the water. Oil on linen, maroufled

on cardboard. Dimensions: 26 / 34 cm.

And the signature which at first was a bit disturbing

and that has everything to do with the prefix "o"

.It became obvious that we had to read Guinotte

and that is the signature from Lucien Guinotte.

Shoichi Hasegawa / Els Hattink

Shoichi Hasegawa

This Japanese artist finally came to Europe (Paris)

where he fulfilled his educations. His etchings

are most appealing to us. These etching came 

beautifully framed and with a certificate.

This one is called L' Atlantide.

Another one that has the title "Reflets"

This one we particularly liked, maybe 

because of the musical instruments involved.

It is titled: Rapsodie. Work on paper.

Dimensions: 75 / 55,5 cm.

  

We will come up with a correctly placed picture.

And of course the certificate of origin 

that has been signed by the artist as well.

Els Hattink

A rather strong work in colours and livelyness!

We think it to be from Els Hattink for which the

signature seems to attest. Work on paper. 

Dimensions: 19,5 / 25 cm.

Giving it a bit of a passe partout makes it more "quiet".

The encadrement as probably was done by the artiste.
